Supporting the Commonwealth
MassHousing does not rely on taxpayer funds to support our work. In fact, we are a net contributor to the Commonwealth. Since 2003, we have provided $425 million :
- $160 million for the creation of an Opportunity Fund, which includes:
- A $100 million Workforce Housing Initiative to create housing affordable for middle-income households
- $50 million to support and preserve affordability of multifamily developments financed under the 13A program
- Funding for other initiatives, such as the Operation Welcome Home loan program for Veterans and the for minority- and women-owned businesses
- $100 million in the form of the MassHousing Priority Development Fund, which spurred production of new rental housing
- A $40 million contribution to the Commonwealth's Affordable Housing Trust Fund
- A $7 million contribution to the Commonwealth's homelessness prevention program
- $15 million to support the Commonwealth's 40R/Workforce Housing program
- $11 million to offset cuts to the Commonwealth's Rental Voucher Program
- $100 million to offset budget cuts to the 13A*, SHARP and R-DAL housing programs
*MassHousing has committed to absorb expenses in the 13A program through fiscal year 2020 and those future costs are included in the $100 million figure.
