Director of Internal Audit

Since its inception in 1966, MassHousing has supported affordable home ownership and rental housing opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The Agency has provided more than $22 billion for affordable housing in that time. Currently, MassHousing is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Director of Internal Audit to continue the Agency’s storied history of affordable housing funding.

The Director of Internal Audit leads the team that provides independent and objective evaluations of MassHousing’s financial and operational business activities. This principled, imperturbable person’s approach to the work adds value to MassHousing’s goal to continuously improve the efficiency of its operations. S/He provides a systematic, disciplined method to evaluate and improve MassHousing’s controls and risk management processes. The Director of Internal Audit is a good-natured, collaborative manager for a team of three and works in close partnership with other MassHousing senior executives. This position reports to the General Counsel.

More specifically, the Director of Internal Audit is responsible for the following:

  • Direct the internal audit function by developing an annual plan, reporting on the various audits conducted and making recommendations based on audit findings.
  • Respond to requests from senior executives and board members to conduct special reviews of procedures and systems.
  • Along with the Chief Financial Officer, staff the board’s Audit and Investment committee providing relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Provide information to MassHousing’s audit firm to produce the annual financial audit.
  • Present oral and/or written presentations to MassHousing’s executive team on recommendations for improving operations and addressing any findings in the annual financial audit.
  • Proactively inform the executive director and/or the board’s Audit and Investment committee of significant risks or exposures related to internal controls, compliance and/or governance.
  • Promptly investigate internal fraud or behaviors in violation of company policies.
  • Train, coach and direct the professional development support necessary to build and maintain a high performing Internal Audit team.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Training

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor designation is required
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
  • Seven to ten years work experience in the Accounting/Auditing field
  • Thorough knowledge of Accounting and Auditing procedures

Salary: $133,599 - $170,338

Financial Accountant

Currently, MassHousing is seeking an energetic professional for the position of Financial Accountant to continue the Agency’s storied history of affordable housing funding.

The Financial Accountant is an entry level position in Financial Reporting and reports directly to the Financial Accounting Supervisor. He/she is responsible for assisting with the accurate and timely preparation of MassHousing’s financial statements, which is the primary tool that allows MassHousing to borrow funds, participate in government programs (GNMA, FNMA, FFB) and develop creative strategies to enable the Agency to further its mission. More specifically, the Financial Accountant is responsible for the following:

  • Performing assigned monthly reconciliations of Cash, Cash Equivalents, Loans Receivable and Debt.
  • Proposing accounting journal entries to the General Ledger as necessary.
  • Preparing, analyzing and reconciling various assigned monthly and quarterly program package deliverables including balance sheet account proofs, Statement of Cash Flow, Income Statement, Statement of Net Position, quarterly flux analysis.
  • Preparing fund or program cash flow projections.
  • Collaborating with other Finance and Agency staff to research variances in reconciliations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Financial Accounting Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. 1-4 years of accounting experience, fund accounting or banking preferred. Experience with automated General Ledger systems a plus. Understanding of accounting concepts and exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a member of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Effective time management and project management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.

Salary: $55,000 - $71,000

Origination Analyst

Since its inception in 1966, MassHousing has supported affordable home ownership and rental housing opportunities throughout Massachusetts. Currently, MassHousing is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Origination Analyst to continue the Agency’s storied history of affordable housing funding.

The Origination Analyst is responsible for assisting Relationship Managers and Originators in reviewing affordable multifamily loan proposals and providing detailed and high-level analysis for the Rental Business Development Division. More specifically, the Origination Analyst is responsible for the following:

  • Reviewing loan information submitted by potential borrowers, inputting loan data into origination model, conducting financial analysis and proposing alternative financing scenarios if necessary, and drafting a number of important documents including Term Sheets, conceptual loan proposals, Board Summaries and commitment letters.
  • Serving as a liaison to both external and internal business partners and taking responsibility for obtaining, understanding and analyzing data and related mortgage information from property owners and other third-party sources.
  • Communicating with potential borrowers and requesting information as needed. S/he may initiate calls and/or attend meetings to review preliminary loan information including sources and uses, income and expense statements, market information and other documents.
  • Developing relationships with potential borrowers to support Relationship Managers and Originators, who are primary points of contact in preliminary loan review and structuring.
  • Administering the origination model to ensure accurate analysis and loan structuring.
  • Maintaining a positive rapport with borrowers and other stakeholders and ensuring appropriate communications regarding the evaluation and eventual approval of loan transactions. Internally, the Analyst collaborates frequently with the Legal and Rental Underwriting and Management divisions.
  • Performing a wide variety of special assignments, including but not limited to research on industry and MassHousing business metrics, the creation of analytical tools, and any other assignments that may emerge as part of business development or loan processing.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Relationship Manager.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required; preference for candidates with degrees in Finance, Real Estate Management, Business Administration, or related field. Two to five years of substantive experience in finance or real estate. Demonstrated history of academic success and professional development. Knowledge of basic financial and financial analysis principles. Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a member of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills with a high-level of attention to detail. Effective time management and project management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; preference for candidates with demonstrated command of Excel for the creation of complex spreadsheet tracking tools. Ability to multi-task and manage a high-volume workload accurately and effectively.

Salary: $62,000 to $80,000.

Technical/Administrative Assistant

The Technical/Administrative Assistant reports to a Senior Portfolio Manager in Asset Management and serves as a liaison to both the Asset Management staff and other Rental Management departments to promote the accessibility of departmental data. S/He also works with the department's Executive Assistant to maintain data integrity and information systems to meet the needs of Asset Management group. More specifically, the Technical/Administrative Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Designing and maintaining databases for tracking projects and department goals.
  • Tracking and monitoring Asset Management's group activities.
  • Developing, modifying, and entering data and ensuring data integrity.
  • Conducting research and analyzing data to prepare reports for the department and division, as requested.
  • Acting as a liaison for Asset Management, serving as a point of contact for customer inquiries and responding to requests for information.
  • Assisting Executive Assistant with special projects.
  • Providing outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers, including co-workers, residents, and business partners.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Senior Portfolio Manager.

Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent. 3-5 years of related work experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, writing, verbal and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multi-task functions. Ability to conduct independent research requiring sound judgment. Familiarity with related business practices and procedures in areas such as federal and state housing program, mortgage banking, and finance. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems and the ability to create high-quality documentation using Microsoft Office tools.

Salary: $49,000 - $62,000
